Ok, so I’ve dated my girlfriend for 2 years now and we’ve known each other for 4 years. I’m currently a senior in college majoring in marketing and she’s going to be a junior aiming for a degree in fashion design.
My girlfriend is really wealthy as her dad (now retired at 50) worked for GM and her mother is a nurse practitioner territorial manager for Animus which is a company owned by J&J. Both her parents and grandparents take good care of my girlfriend and her 2 siblings as they have always got whatever they wanted. They’ve never had a Christmas where they didn’t get everything on their Christmas list. Whenever they ask for something they usually get it even if it isn’t a special occasion.
My girlfriend has been through 5 phones because she broke them all and upgrades her cell phone at least once a year. She has multiple copies of things such as 2 Ipod and 2 pairs of Ugg boots. She usually only wears brands such as Abercrombie, Sperry’s, Tiffany’s, and Coach. Her parent’s house which is worth half a million dollars at least is literally 5 minutes away from campus and yet her parents still pay for her and her sister to live on campus along with their tuition. Her mom also visits her at least once a week to take her out grocery shopping even though she can get food from the dorms.
Her sister is basically the same way except she throws a fit literally when she doesn’t get what she wants and she’ll be pissy the whole day. Both of them literally don’t know financial things like what a roth IRA is even though their dad puts thousands of dollars into their accounts for them every year. On average, each of them personally spends up to 2 thousand every 3 months on their own wants.
Anyways, the point is that how should I ignore the fact that I feel inadequate right now compared to her family. I’ve always earned every thing by myself and I always use things that I get to the fullest possible extent unlike my girlfriend who’s getting a blackberry just because it’s cool looking. I admit that I am a little jealous because it would be nice if my parents could afford to get me all that stuff to but I’m trying to live the best I can with what I have. I pay for my own housing and all my clothes, food, cell phone, and such while holding down a job while in college. My girlfriend’s sister usually doesn’t talk to me and she looks down on me whenever she sees me like she thinks she’s better than me. I always have to come up and say hi to her first and start a conversation with her.
Do you guys think that this money issue won’t be a problem in our relationship? Do you guys think she’s TOO spoiled along with her sister? I’m worried that I won’t be able to get her all these nice things.
